This medium tank was the most mass-produced German machine of the Second World War period. Serial production of PzKpfw IV Ausf. A began in the autumn of 1937. The first tanks were not yet characterized by powerful armour (15mm), but they were already equipped with a 75mm KwK 37 gun.
In the next modification (Ausf. B), the frontal armour became twice as thick. It was clear that after the fighting in Poland at the beginning of the Second World War, new reinforcements were required to protect this tank.
They would also remove the side skirts before using them again at a later date – as is the case with the modification of Ausf. H. The collision with Soviet tanks in the USSR eventually resulted in a new cannon for the PzKpfw IV, the 7.5cm KwK 40 L / 43. In general, Panzer IV managed to fight literally
everywhere: from Yugoslavia to Africa, from Stalingrad and the Battle of Kursk to Normandy and the Ardennes. This tank was destined for a long life: it took part in military conflicts at least until the late 1960s.
