Description
The F-104 Starfighter was conceived in the mid-50s as a supersonic interceptor for US air forces, which feared attack by heavy Soviet bombers over the US itself. The Starfighters speed and climb performance was exceptional (it was the first plane to exceed Mach 2) and its development produced what was, back then, top secret cutting-edge technology that was to have a lasting influence on the aeronautics industry. The F-104s operational career was brief as it was soon made obsolete by more advanced (F-102 and F-106) planes
