Description
The AH-1T Sea Cobra, designed for a specific need of the United States Marines Corps, stems from the famous Bell AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter that was produced in the mid- 60s for the United States Army. The Sea Cobra was developed to give close combat support during landing operations, in coordination with land vehicles. The Sea Cobra was also employed for convoy escort and as a navalized helicopter. During the 1990 Desert Shield and the 1991 Desert Storm operations, Marines used Sea Cobras for close combat support and suppression of enemy fire. The AH-1T is equipped with a three barrel 20mm turret-mounted cannon. It can also be fitted with several different air to ground and land support weapons. The more frequently used configuration includes eight Tow antitank rocket launchers and two 70mm 19-rockets launchers fitted under the lateral hard points.
