11 May 2014
The 2014 is an important year for the Italian Army because of is the 200th anniversary of the Carabinieri corps founding date. It was founded on 1814 with the promulgation by Vittorio Emanuele I of Savoy of the “Regie Patenti”, in which a new special part of the Army was created with the aim of providing the Kingdom of Sardinia with a police corps to control the order and the safety. Since that day of 1814 the Carabinieri have become one of the most famous and “iconic” symbols of the Italian Government and Institutions. Further more they are considered a symbol of reliability and they have great respect by the whole Italian population. The Carabinieri have fought in every conflict in which Italy was involved with the sacrifice of many losses, covering themselves with honour (during its history the Corps received important decorations including 121 gold medals for military valour). In recent years Carabinieri units, alongside the institutional activities on the Italian territory, have been dispatched on peacekeeping missions in several international theatres, including Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Italeri, to celebrate 200 years of the Carabinieri Corps, has dedicated three special scale model kits.
